The COVID-19 virus can infect people of all ages. There is evidence that suggests that two groups of people are at higher risk of getting a severe disease from the infection: 1) Older people (people over 60 years of age) 2) those with underlying medical conditions (cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer). The risk of getting a severe illness from the virus gradually increases for those who are around 40 years of age. The World Health Organization emphasizes that all people should protect themselves from the infection to protect others.

Reported illnesses from the virus have ranged from mild symptoms to severe disease and death for confirmed COVID-19 cases.

After 2-14 days after exposure, the following symptoms may appear:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath

If you develop emergency warning signs, get medical attention ASAP! These include:

  • Trouble breathing
  • Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
  • New confusion or inability to arouse
  • Bluish lips or face

The best way to prevent the disease is to avoid exposure to the virus!

  • COVID-19 spreads from person to person, between people who are in close contact with each other (within 6 feet) and through respiratory droplets passed when a person who is infected coughs or sneezes. These tiny droplets can land in the mouth or nose of people who are nearby or inhaled into the lungs.

Please stay safe by washing your hands often, practicing social distancing, and staying in your homes! Together we can overcome COVID-19.
