Going out for some sunshine and fresh air, being with my buddies, and playing golf sounds like the perfect weekend activity. Now, with the virus among us, it is also a great social distance activity and sport to start taking part in. In Austin, there are many golf courses to choose from all over the city, so finding a big open field is not too difficult. But after a long day on the course, your arms can start to take a beating. Here are a few of the most common injuries caused by golfing:
Common Golf Injury #1: Hand Injuries
- Having a lousy grip out in the golf course can cause hand pain. Hand injuries occur from gripping the club too tightly or in the wrong way. Additionally, if you play very often, it can also cause carpal tunnel syndrome development.
Common Golf Injury #2: Wrist Injuries
- A common injury is in the wrist. This injury is caused by poor mechanics, as hitting the golf ball can put much strain on your wrist.
- Another casualty could be tendinitis, which is characterized by having a gradual increase in wrist pain. This injury occurs by overuse as well as poor form. Stress caused by swinging the club can also cause tiny tears in the wrist tendon, which become inflamed and cause pain.
Common Golf Injury #3: Elbow Injuries
- One of the most common injuries is in the elbow, the Golfer’s Elbow. This injury is a condition that comes from the strain caused by repetitive motion. Having pain in the forearm and elbow is indicative of having Golfer’s Elbow.
Common Golf Injury #4: Shoulder Injuries
- Poor mechanics, when playing the game, can cause shoulder impingement. This injury occurs when the tendons are pinched between the bones in your shoulder. Impingement also leads to tendinitis, which can lead to a tear.
Playing golf should be fun, not painful. If you are suffering from any of these common golf injuries, give us a call so you can get back on the course.
Also, leave us a comment with your favorite golfing spots, we’d love to try them out!
