“I work as a medical assistant for a private clinic?”

 “What type of clinic?”

“I work at a pain management clinic, “

“Oh, what’s that?”

I’ll begin to explain what Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) is.

Honestly, before starting to work at Austin Spine and Wellness, I didn’t know what Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation was, so before my interview, I tried to learn more about the specialty.

PM&R is a branch of medicine that tries to enhance and restore the functional ability and quality of life of patients that suffer from physical impairments and disabilities.

These physicians, known as physiatrists, can evaluate and treat adults and children with acute and chronic pain. These include short or long-term physical and cognitive impairments and disabilities resulting from musculoskeletal conditions, neurological conditions, and other medical conditions.

A physiatrist’s role is to focus on the whole person and take into account all aspects of the patient that can affect their disability and chronic pain. The goal of treatment and pain management is to help decrease the pain of the patient, enhance their performance to be more functional while trying to avoid having to obtain surgery. After diagnosing a patient, the physiatrist will attempt to create a specialized treatment plan tailored to the patient.

Our goal is help you with your pain management. Give is a call with any question you have or if you would like to schedule a same-day consultation. We’re here to be your #1 resource for pain management.  Click to Call or Text
